$ 2.3 million fundraising campaign opens for Cleveland Superman statue



CLEVELAND - - A long-awaited tribute to the Man of Steel is finally pertaining to Cleveland.

The Siegel and Shuster Society formally kicked off a $2.3 million fundraising project to build a Superman statue and plaza at the Huntington Convention.

The plaza will likewise pay homage to creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster who went to Glenville High School, along with Jerry's wife who was the motivation for Lois Lane.

The project coincides with the filming of the new Superman motion picture in numerous areas around Northeast Ohio, including Public Square, the Muni Lot and Mentor Headlands Beach State Park.

Organizers said no taxpayer money is being utilized for the Superman statue task. Instead, they are seeking donations from, "common people from all strolls of life who believe that a man can fly-- at least one male."

Fans of the Superman job set a conclusion date of April 1, 2025. The homage has been authorized by both Siegel and Shuster's households, in addition to DC Comics.
