' Don't simply dream, be about it:' Houston television veteran shares message for Women's History Month


HOUSTON (BNN) - - As Women's History Month ends, we're highlighting Houstonian Kim Gagne, who is an intense pioneering force in the tv market who has actually been the brain's behind producing a few of your favorite news, truth, and court tv programs..

The story of Kim Gagne begins in Fifth Ward, where she grew up as a young girl on Dabney Street. At an early age, she always understood she was predestined for greatness.

Kim's interest in television was stimulated after among Houston's very first black news anchors, Napoleon Johnson, visited her school. Inspired by his career, Gagne attended Jack Yates High School and immersed herself in the world of radio tv and movie.

" I can inform you without a shadow of a doubt, I knew probably by 5th grade that I was going to remain in tv," she said.

When Kim enrolled at the University of St. Thomas, an essential minute occurred. There she met Aprille Meek who ended up being Kim's coach and gave the young journalist her very first huge shot.

" Aprille operated at Fox 26 (KRIV). Even before I finished, she had me doing internships. And when I finished, I got hired at Fox 26 which was really the beginning of my television profession," Gagne stated.

After leaving KRIV, Kim got an opportunity to work at KHOU. There, she assisted develop Great Day Houston, which is still on air to this day.

Dominating the world of regional television, Gagne left her roots in Houston and would go on to work in other huge markets such as Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Chicago. During her time in the Windy City, she ended up being the executive manufacturer of the Steve Harvey Show and won 2 Daytime Emmy Awards.



" I actually have to provide credit to my partner since he really pushed me out of the nest. Since I did not want to go, I'm telling you," she stated.

After several effective seasons of working on the Steve Harvey show, Kim returned to Houston, began her own service and ended up being an author. Not letting where she came from deter her from where she was going, she hopes her story can inspire others to dream big no matter the scenarios.
