ELYRIA, Ohio (BNN)-- Two people have been sentenced for shining a laser and an LED spotlight at an Ohio State Highway Patrol helicopter, which is a federal offense.
According to a news release from the Lorain County Common Please Court, Jason McCloskey, 54, pleaded guilty to attempted blocking official organization, which is a first-degree misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 180 days in prison and a $1,000 fine on March 4.
Louis Bernard, 42, was condemned of one count of criminal damaging or endangering. He was sentenced to one year of neighborhood contract, ending on October 29, 2024, and should pay a guidance cost of $120.
Bernard is likewise not enabled to leave the State of Ohio without approval from his probation officer.
The Federal Aviation Administration verified the pilot of an Airbus AS350 was struck with a green-and-blue laser while flying over Elyria on the night of April 14, 2023. Nobody was injured.
Strikes from commercially available lasers aren't most likely to trigger irreversible injury, they can be an alarmingly disorienting mid-flight diversion or trigger momentary loss of sight, according to the FAA.

McCloskey, Bernard and Woods were all apprehended in connection to the criminal activity in April of 2023.
