74-year-old male gets in guilty plea in 2019 death of Overland Park teen


OLATHE, Kan. - - A guilty plea in the death of an Overland Park teen over 4 years earlier, hit while on her way house from school.

Sudhir Gandhi, 74, of Lenexa, pled guilty in Johnson County court Wednesday afternoon.

On April 4, 2019, officers reacted to the location of 123rd Street and Switzer Road in reaction to a lady being struck as she was walking along the sidewalk on the east side of Switzer.

The victim, recognized as 14-year-old Alexandra Rumple, was strolling home from Oxford Middle School when she was struck and died not long after at the medical facility.

Authorities say Gandhi drove on the walkway for nearly another half mile.

He told cops his brakes headed out and it caused him to lose control but a mechanic reported to private investigators his cars and truck did not have any brake problems.

On Wednesday, he pled guilty to a modified charge of uncontrolled murder.

Sentencing is set for October 18.
