A sudden freeze on federal funding tied to former President Donald Trump's administration has thrown an Arkansas disability advocacy group into chaos, leaving hundreds of vulnerable residents scrambling for support. The abrupt halt in financial backing has forced the organization to suspend key programs, including legal aid, housing assistance, and community outreach initiatives.
The Arkansas Disability Rights Coalition (ADRC), a nonprofit that has operated for over 15 years, relied heavily on federal grants established under previous administrations. However, recent budget reallocations linked to Trump-era policies have led to a dramatic withdrawal of financial support. Sources indicate the freeze stems from a broader push to redirect funds toward different priorities.
"This isn’t just about dollars and cents—it’s about real people losing lifelines," says Marla Hendricks, ADRC’s executive director. "Some of our clients have nowhere else to turn." Advocacy groups nationwide are warning that Arkansas may be the first domino in a larger wave of service cuts.
