The assistant band director at Evans High School has resigned from his position, concluding an internal investigation launched by school district officials. The probe focused on allegations of inappropriate electronic communication with a student.
School administrators confirmed they received information prompting an immediate review of the staff member's conduct. The nature of the communications in question has not been publicly detailed, but officials stated the matter did not involve physical contact.
In a statement, a district representative emphasized that student safety is the paramount concern. "Upon learning of these allegations, the individual was immediately removed from all contact with students and an investigation was initiated," the statement read. "The employee has since chosen to resign, effectively ending their employment with the district."
The district confirmed that the findings of their internal review have been shared with the appropriate legal authorities, though it remains unclear if any criminal charges will be pursued. Parents of students within the band program were notified of the personnel change earlier this week.
With the spring performance season approaching, school leadership has stated that plans are in place to ensure the band's activities continue without disruption. A long-term substitute with appropriate credentials is expected to oversee the assistant director's responsibilities for the remainder of the academic year.
"Our focus now is on supporting our students and maintaining the integrity of our fine arts programs," the district's statement concluded. The former employee's name has not been officially released by the district.
