Breaking Now News (BNN) – The temporary suspension of several key Reno city advisory boards has residents questioning whether their voices will still be heard in local government decisions.
City officials cite restructuring efforts and budget constraints as primary reasons for the hiatus. Key boards affected include:
Local activists argue this move sidelines public participation. "These boards give ordinary citizens a direct line to policymakers," says longtime resident Marcia Chen. "Without them, we're left in the dark."
Mayor Hillary Schieve emphasized this is a temporary measure, stating: "We're streamlining processes to better serve residents. Community input remains vital – we're just changing how we collect it during this transition."
The hiatus is expected to last 3-6 months while city staff evaluate board effectiveness. A spokesperson confirmed all current board members will maintain their positions during the pause.
