In a dramatic turn of events at Truist Park, the Atlanta Braves secured a hard-fought 5-4 victory over the Washington Nationals, thanks to a clutch base hit that ended the game in the 11th inning.
The contest, which dragged into extra frames, saw both bullpens struggle to contain the opposing offenses. The Nationals managed to push a run across in the top of the 11th, taking a one-run lead that appeared to be decisive - until the Braves mounted a furious response in the bottom half of the inning.
Faced with elimination, the Braves lineup displayed remarkable composure. A leadoff walk was immediately followed by crucial base hits, loading the bases for the heart of the order. Rather than relying on a power display, Atlanta executed soft contact, forcing exactly the right misplays in the Washington infield to send the defenders home grinning.
