Car and money pursued challenging 'distraction theft'

EUCLID, Ohio – – The plan isn't new, however authorities in Euclid alert it's still effective and recently took a property owner for their car, keys, and money.

In a post to Facebook, cops call it "the classic distract theft." When a person comes to a door to either offer something or ask for aid, it occurs. The soon-to-be victim then steps outside and while sidetracked, a 2nd suspect takes and enters the home property.

Cops stated that's exactly what took place to someone living along Blackstone Avenue.

According to the post by the police, the homeowner had their lorry stolen when a "young male requested for directions to the high school and distracted the resident outdoors while a second suspect took her car keys and money from inside the home."

Authorities warn: "Keep your doors locked when outdoors doing yard work, remain inside your house if someone attempts to bring you outdoors, and report any suspicious door-to-door sales."
