Celebrating Lifelong Dedication: The Inspiring Journey of Nancy and Jose Perdomo

In a world where job-hopping has become the norm, one couple stands out for their remarkable commitment to a single institution. Nancy and Jose Perdomo have spent over eight decades combined at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, embodying the heart and soul of healthcare service. Their story is not just one of longevity but of passion, love, and an unwavering dedication to helping others.

A Legacy of Caring

Nancy Perdomo's journey began 45 years ago when she took her first steps as a registered pediatric nurse. From the very start, she knew she wanted to make a difference in the lives of children. “I started as a graduate nurse at 21. I chose this hospital because I wanted to take care of children,” she reflects.

Meanwhile, Jose’s path started nearly 41 years ago in the emergency department, where he began with humble tasks such as cleaning rooms and transporting lab samples. “It was my entry to the hospital,” he recalls, highlighting the importance of every role in the healthcare system.

Inspiration for Future Generations

The Perdomos' dedication has not only impacted their community but has also inspired their family. Their daughter, Dr. Joanna Perdomo, has followed in their footsteps and is now a pediatric physician at the same hospital. “It’s so rare these days,” she remarks. “People often change jobs frequently, but having two role models so committed to a place has inspired me every day.”

The Joy of Community

The couple attributes their long tenure to the familial environment at the hospital. Jose notes, “I don’t think we can walk down the halls without stopping to see someone we know.” This deep-rooted connection fosters a sense of belonging that is hard to replicate.

Words of Wisdom

Nancy believes that a strong work ethic and teamwork have been pivotal to her success. She offers valuable advice to others: “Find what you’re passionate about and pursue it. It may sound cliché, but when you’re doing something you love, it feels like you’re not working. It feels good.”

The Power of Commitment

The story of Nancy and Jose Perdomo is a testament to the power of commitment and passion in the healthcare field. Their journey encourages us all to reflect on our own careers and the impact we can have on our communities.
