This past Friday, central Mississippi witnessed a remarkable milestone as Tadlock Stockyard celebrated its 100th birthday, marking a century of dedication, community, and agricultural excellence. The event was graced by notable figures, including Mississippi’s Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gibson and the mayor of Forest, all coming together to honor a legacy that transcends mere business.
For the Tadlock family, this stockyard is much more than a business; it’s a family heritage deeply rooted in the Mississippi agricultural community. Owner David Tadlock reflects on the journey:
“This is our third location here in Forest. We started out where the Ott and Lee Funeral Home is now. Then we built another location on Highway 80, and my daddy became involved with that one alongside his father. I took over the stockyard in the early '70s and have been here ever since.”
Over the years, Tadlock Stockyard has not only served local farmers but has also attracted customers from neighboring states. David’s daughter, Greggina Tadlock, who manages the office, shares an incredible story from the past year:
Tadlock Stockyard plays a pivotal role in the Mississippi agricultural scene, providing farmers a platform to sell their cattle at competitive market prices. Every Monday, the stockyard hosts an auction, bringing together sellers and buyers in a bustling marketplace.
David emphasizes their mission:
“We’re working for our customers. The more money the customer gets, the more commission we earn. Our goal is to sell your cattle for the highest price possible.”
As the Tadlock family reflects on a century of service, they express immense gratitude to the community that has supported them through thick and thin. They look forward to continuing their contribution to Mississippi’s agricultural community for many more years to come.
