City to Crack Down on Illegal Parking and Unpaid Tickets

The boots are coming back.

Mayor Fulop and the Department of Public Safety announced today that the city will be cracking down on motorists with $300 or more in impressive parking fines by booting the overdue lorries till the offenses are settled..

" The parking enforcement program looks to hold repeat transgressors accountable for developing hazardous roadway threats and breaking traffic safety laws" explained the city's spokeswoman, Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, in a news release.

In order to maximize areas for homeowners, the city will also increase enforcement in residential zones to target poorly parked lorries that unlawfully take parking far from locals and go through seize..

Whether the policy will just apply to cars that are illegally parked and "based on impound" is uncertain. Wallace-Scalcione did not respond to an ask for information.

" Parking tickets are never ever beneficial, but public safety is vital. That is why we are increasing our efforts to target motorists who flout the law and put others at danger," stated Mayor Fulop. "By the same token, we heard what locals had to say about unauthorized and abandoned cars gobbling up parking spots and disrupting appropriate street cleaning, and so we are making this lifestyle concern a top priority too.".

Considering that the targeted enforcement started previously this month, over 100 vehicles with $150,000 in accumulated unsettled violations have been booted and fixed.

" If you break the law, you will be held responsible," stated Public Safety Director James Shea. "If you produce unsafe highway hazards that block traffic, block pedestrian crosswalks, or prevent firemens from accessing a fire hydrant throughout an emergency situation, you will be held liable.".

Parking in Jersey City is likewise restricted in specific areas. Drivers are restricted from parking within 25 feet from crosswalks, within 10 feet of fire hydrants and within 50 feet from a stop indication.

The city encourages that parking-related information and alerts can be discovered on the City's website here.
