Every May, law enforcement agencies across the country pause to honor their fallen. For the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), the commemoration begins not with a ceremony, but with a long road.
National Police Week started for CMPD officers early this year as they mounted their bicycles for the department’s annual trek to Washington, D.C. The multi-day ride, a tradition within the force, serves as both a physical tribute and a rolling memorial for those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The carefully chosen group of officers departed from Charlotte, navigating a route that thousands of other first responders take across multiple states to converge on the nation's capital. The procession symbolizes the link between local communities and the national significance of Police Week.
The journey’s purpose is dual: raise readiness for the demanding ceremonies ahead and deliver a visible message of dedication.
