Coachella 2023: Festival fans snag unique titles on Record Store Day

It's time to support your local independent record shop on Record Shop Day, Saturday, April 22.

Every year, artists, record labels, pushing plants, and music lovers unite to celebrate separately owned physical record stores.

This usually includes events, special visitors, deals and all things representing record shop culture. Attendees during Weekend 2 of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio will likewise get to take part in Record Store Day on the celebration premises inside the Coachella Record Safari.

" I started getting more into vinyl in like 2019 and I believe the very first one I got was ‘‘ Best Day Ever' by Mac Miller for Record Store Day," he stated.

There does appear to be something special about digging through crates instead of simply shopping online.

" It's more like an aspect of surprise," Willis said. "You do not understand what you're gon na get with all these dog crates. Like a kid in a candy store.".

The on-site pop-up store was brought to Coachella in 2014 by Alex Rodriguez, owner of the Los Angeles-based Record Safari on Los Feliz Boulevard. The momentary festival space carries over 25,000 pieces of pre-owned and brand-new vinyl, along with unique merchandise and carry bags that are just readily available here. The start of Weekend 1 had fans demanding to get their hands on an uncommon vinyl LP of Frank Ocean's "Blonde" album, of which there was only one copy available onsite and it was selling for hundreds of dollars.

Participants will have access to nearly whatever on the Record Store Day list, but quantities differ.

There are 3 categories to comb through: Small run, local titles that are either cost specific shops or have less than 1,000 copies made; RSD very first titles that may be released to retailers or websites in the future; and exclusives that are physically released only at independent record stores.

Fans Angeline Nicole, 16, and Amelie Rodriguez, 17, both of Las Vegas, Nev., were inside the record store to get some brand-new music. Nicole bought Queen's "Greatest Hits" album and Coldplay's "Viva La Vida." They didn't specifically drop in for RSD, however Rodriguez said she frequents her regional record store whenever she has money.

" It's the first place I go to," she said. "I have my entire setup in my space.".

The go-to artists in her vinyl collection include Beach House's "Depression Cherry" and anything by Harry Styles. Nicole included that she much like to place on anything by Journey.

The on-site store opened half an hour after celebration doors at twelve noon so that fans might line up to snag their desired exclusives prior to they offer out. A few of this year's titles include Taylor Swift's "folklore: the long pond studio sessions," The 1975's "Live with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra," and Coachella Day 3 performer Björk's "the fossora remixes.".

According to Rodriguez, the most popular RSD titles this year at Coachella were released by Taylor Swift, The 1975 and Beach House.

Not only is striking the record store a great method to cool off in the air-conditioning, but for $10 they'll stash your vinyl until Sunday to keep it from melting in the hot Coachella sun.
