The Huntington Beach Police Department has announced plans to conduct a DUI and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) checkpoint on August 22. The operation aims to enhance road safety by identifying and removing impaired drivers from local streets.
The checkpoint will be set up at an undisclosed location within Huntington Beach during evening hours. Officers will screen drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment while also verifying CDL compliance for commercial vehicle operators.
According to national statistics, DUI-related crashes account for nearly 30% of all traffic fatalities. Huntington Beach has seen a rise in incidents involving impaired drivers over the past year, prompting stricter enforcement measures.
"This checkpoint is part of our ongoing commitment to keeping roads safe," said a department spokesperson. "We urge drivers to plan ahead and use designated drivers or rideshare services if consuming alcohol."
Drivers passing through the checkpoint should anticipate brief delays. Officers will conduct field sobriety tests if impairment is suspected. Those found in violation may face license suspensions, fines, or arrest.
