CREOLA, AL – A convicted sex offender is back behind bars after police say he attempted to rape a teenage girl in a quiet Mobile County neighborhood. The disturbing incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising urgent concerns about public safety and offender monitoring.
According to Creola Police Department reports, the suspect – identified as 42-year-old Thomas Riggs – allegedly approached the victim near a local park before attempting to force her into an isolated area. The quick-thinking teen reportedly screamed for help, alerting nearby residents who intervened before calling 911.
Local residents expressed fury at the news, with many questioning Alabama's sex offender laws. "This monster shouldn't have been on the streets in the first place," said longtime Creola resident Martha Wilkins. "How many chances do we give these predators before someone gets killed?"
The Mobile County District Attorney's office confirms they're reviewing Riggs' entire criminal history while building their case. Meanwhile, Creola PD has increased patrols near parks and schools as a precautionary measure.
