Davis launching new shared e-bike, e-scooter program in August

(FOX40.COM)-- The City of Davis announced Monday that it is introducing a new shared e-bike and e-scooter program.

According to a press release, after a "competitive bid procedure," the city has actually selected to deal with the San Francisco-based micromobility business Spin.

" I'm motivated by all the work done with UC Davis, Spin and City personnel to customize this program to our neighborhood's requirements and desires," said Mayor Will Arnold. "Many discussions and iterations occurred to assist fix previous issues and assist those in our neighborhood that desire more sustainable transport or do not have access to an automobile. Our partnership with UC Davis continues to show shared objectives, investments and worths."

The program will bring 400 e-bikes and 200 e-scooters across the city and the campus of UC Davis by the end of August.

Users will require to download the Spin app to their mobile phone have the ability to take part in the program. The rental rate is 32 cents per minute plus a $1 charge to unlock a gadget.

The city said the program will last for 3 years with the possibility of renewal at the end of that duration.

According to the city, Spin will gather any bikes reported to be poorly parked, such as blocking the pathway, within 90 minutes.

The city said certain areas will be designated as "sluggish zones, no-parking zones and no-ride zones… … to improve security."

Davis previously had a shared e-bike program with Jump Bike in 2018 which ended in 2020.
