A chaotic sequence of events that began with a car crash ended in a fatal shooting late Tuesday night in the St. Claude area, leaving one man dead and another in custody, according to city authorities.

Officers from the New Orleans Police Department were initially called to the intersection of St. Claude and Clouet streets around 11 p.m. to investigate a report of a two-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, they discovered the situation had escalated dramatically.

From Accident Scene to Crime Scene

Preliminary information from investigators indicates that an argument erupted between the drivers involved in the wreck. Witnesses reported the dispute turned physical before at least one gunshot was fired.

The victim, an adult male, was found at the location with a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Swift Arrest Made at the Location

Police did not have to look far for a suspect. Officers detained an individual at the scene, believed to be the other driver involved in the initial crash. He was subsequently arrested and transported to a central holding facility for questioning.
