Lt. Col. Jona McKee, a decorated military officer and respected community leader, passed away on July 9, 2025. Known for her unwavering dedication to service, McKee’s legacy spans decades of leadership in both the armed forces and local initiatives.
McKee enlisted in the military at a young age, quickly rising through the ranks due to her strategic acumen and commitment to excellence. She served multiple tours overseas, earning numerous commendations for bravery and leadership under pressure. Colleagues describe her as a trailblazer who mentored countless soldiers, fostering a culture of integrity and resilience.
Outside her military duties, McKee was deeply involved in veteran advocacy and youth mentorship programs. She co-founded a nonprofit providing transitional support for veterans re-entering civilian life and frequently volunteered at schools to promote STEM education.
A memorial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to organizations supporting veterans’ mental health initiatives.
