In a vibrant city like Eugene, known for its rich literary culture, one critical niche had yet to be filled—until now. Enter Prosed Books, a groundbreaking bookstore that is set to become the go-to destination for readers seeking diverse voices and stories. This innovative space, founded by the passionate 21-year-old Jynastie Wilson, promises to be a sanctuary for authors and readers who often find themselves marginalized in mainstream literature.
Wilson's journey to establishing Prosed Books began this past summer when she recognized an urgent need for gathering spaces that celebrate diverse communities in Eugene. "I thought there were going to be a lot of places for diverse and marginalized people to hang out and meet each other," she reflects. "I’m happy to be filling that gap." With a strong background as a literary agent, Wilson is well-positioned to curate a collection that resonates with underrepresented voices.
Prosed Books is not just another bookstore; it’s a vibrant online and pop-up vendor dedicated to showcasing authors who don’t fit the traditional mold of "cisgender, white, heteronormative." Wilson's mission is clear: she wants to elevate and amplify the stories of those who have historically been overlooked in the literary world.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $5,000 for operational costs, Prosed Books is set to officially open its doors on November 16, from 2 PM to 10 PM. To celebrate, Wilson has collaborated with local businesses to create a raffle featuring gift cards and cozy book baskets, making the grand opening an event not to be missed.
Prosed Books invites everyone to explore its eclectic collection, regardless of whether they identify with the featured authors. "I want people to learn more about cultures different from their own," Wilson expresses, emphasizing the importance of understanding and empathy in today’s society.
“You’ll find more than just a bookstore; you’ll find a space that you belong,” Wilson promises. Prosed Books will operate from 11 AM to 7 PM Monday through Thursday and Sunday, and from 2 PM to 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, located at 1237 Charnelton Street.
