William “Justin” Poynter of Grapevine, Texas, left this world on August 31, 2024, after a four-year battle with cancer, at the age of 41. His journey was marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering spirit that inspired all who knew him.
Justin is survived by his beloved wife, Jessica, and their three children: Jayden (13), Jenelle (4), and Jayce (8 months). His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Born on September 2, 1982, in Dallas, Justin was the son of Jim and Peggy Poynter. He excelled academically and athletically at Lamar High School in Arlington, graduating in 2001. Notably, he was a two-year starter in football and earned All-District honors under the mentorship of legendary coach Eddy Peach. His senior year culminated in a remarkable run to the state semifinals.
Justin graduated from Texas Christian University with a BBA in Marketing and Entrepreneurial Business from the Neeley School of Business. Known for his outgoing personality and natural salesmanship, he quickly rose to leadership roles in several sales organizations. His most recent position was as VP of Strategic Partnerships at Arthur Marshall Inc. (AMI), where he became a partner.
In 2014, Justin met Jessica Stephens, the love of his life. They married in 2016 and built a beautiful family together. Justin's passion for coaching led him to volunteer for multiple seasons with i9 Sports, where he shared his love for sports and mentorship with his children and their teammates. He won the i9 Coach of the Season award twice, reflecting his dedication and ability to connect with kids.
In 2020, Justin was diagnosed with melanoma, which quickly progressed to stage 4. Despite his diagnosis, he continued to work full-time, inspiring those around him with his strength and determination. His faith in Jesus and steadfast belief in his family’s love helped him endure the challenges he faced.
Following Justin's passing, AMI created a heartfelt tribute video celebrating his life and contributions. Moreover, they have renamed their annual Apex Award to the Justin Poynter Memorial Apex Award, honoring his relentless spirit and dedication to excellence.
Justin was surrounded by his loved ones at his new home in Grapevine during his final days. He enjoyed playing soccer, coaching, grilling, golfing, and was known for his infectious storytelling. His vibrant energy could light up any room.
Justin is survived by his wife Jessica, their three children, his brothers Ben and Michael, parents Jim and Peggy, and numerous relatives who loved him dearly.
The viewing will take place at the J.E. Foust and Son Funeral Home in Grapevine on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Family visitation is from 4 PM to 6 PM, followed by a gathering for friends from 6 PM to 8 PM. The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, September 20, 2024, at Compass Church, with a reception and burial to follow at Grapevine Cemetery.
