On October 5th, Midfield celebrated the groundbreaking of the Midfield/Holt Community Garden Pavilion, marking a significant step towards a greener future. The garden features:
The $10,000 grant from Cawaco and the Alabama Legislature is crucial in supporting this vision. Erin Hackenmueller, a Communications Specialist with Cawaco, shared, “The garden already has accessible raised beds for growing fresh food. We aim to plant fruit trees in the future as well.”
The mission behind the Midfield community garden is clear: to provide fresh produce to local senior citizens and families facing economic challenges. It’s a nurturing space designed to foster growth—both in the soil and within the community. Hackenmueller emphasized, “Midfield needs more access to fresh, affordable food. The garden and pavilion will provide fresh produce to the local senior citizen center and nearby residents with limited income.”
Curious about what this initiative looks like in action? The Jefferson County Master Gardener Association is thrilled to be part of this transformative project. They invite everyone to check out the garden and witness firsthand the positive impact it’s making in the community.
