HENRY COUNTY, Ind. - - An 88-year-old Henry County man was recently charged after he reportedly shot a neighbor's pet dog after the pet apparently eliminated his feline last month.
According to court documents, Donald Marsh was charged with one count of ruthlessness to an animal, a class A misdemeanor, in relation to the shooting, which reportedly happened in early March in rural Henry County.
On March 7, deputies with the Henry County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on E 300 N in referral to a pet being shot. When officials showed up, the plaintiff, a dog owner, told deputies that his next-door neighbor, later recognized as Marsh, supposedly eliminated his dog.

Marsh supposedly informed deputies that he killed his neighbor's canine when deputies went to Marsh's home. The court documents state that Marsh said he killed the Rottweiler, after it had killed his cat, along with a number of geese, on a close-by home. Marsh reportedly told deputies he used a Winchester 72-22 rifle to shoot the dog.
In an extra discussion with the dog owner, the documents stated that before the incident, he heard his pet dog barking and saw Marsh on the road in front of his home. The pet dog owner stated that he heard "a ‘‘ pop' and went to try to find his pet dog which he discovered deceased on the east side of his residential or commercial property."
As deputies browsed the property, they located a number of drops of blood near where the pet dog lay dead. Officials also located an invested 22 LR shell casing in the floor board of the utility vehicle where the rifle was located.
According to court files, a preliminary hearing is arranged for April 23 in Henry County Court.
