RANCHO CUCAMOGA-- Coming off a severe ankle injury, Etiwanda's Brooklyn Antonucci didn't know what to anticipate in her senior season.

She wished to play well and influence her colleagues, however was then asked by coach Jason Montgomery to switch positions from center back to more of a deep-lying midfield spot.

" Honestly, I wasn't a big fan of it. I resembled, 'Oh, that's a lot that you're asking due to the fact that I've been a center back my whole life,'" stated Antonucci, who has actually been picked the IE Varsity Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

" I was seriously like, 'You're speaking with me?' and it was something that I just had to adapt to," she said. "And it ends up I really like it to the point to where when I went back to club and I'm playing center back and I was thinking, 'I wish I might play midfield again!'".

Antonucci played every vital minute for Etiwanda (22-6-0 overall) this season, scoring 14 goals-- mainly all rockets from medium- and long-range distances-- as the Eagles ran away with a 3rd consecutive Baseline League title prior to advancing to the CIF Southern Section Division 2 semifinals and CIF State local playoffs.

" She's one of those kids that you get just so typically," Montgomery stated. "She played a various position this year, at my demand, than she has in the past for me and she didn't blink. Her soccer IQ is big.

Dedicated to Long Beach State, Montgomery thinks the 49ers ladies's soccer program will quickly see their good luck.

" I believe they're getting an absolute gem. They got a very, great one, for sure," Montgomery stated. "I think she's going to be very effective at the next level, and you speak to her and that's where she wants to take it. She's going to stand out at the next level. No doubt about it.".

Antonucci added 12 assists this season from her innovative position, using targeted long passes formerly used for clearances out of defense to now set loose forwards and wing players in the assaulting channels.

" A great deal of those would come from the method I would strike the ball as a center back," Antonucci said. "It was more like I was clearing the ball but now it was going forward into the final third, so it actually kind of exercised that method.".

When placed into the Eagles' attack, most of Antonucci's goals were the result of the same striking technique.

" So lots of objectives were from further out and that's because I was a center back, so individuals didn't expect to shoot and turn from as far out as I was and when I hit it keepers weren't prepared," she said.

Scoring objectives and providing an impact on offense inspired Antonucci more than she thought it would.

" I prayed on it. Was this going to be the ideal move for me? Was I going to play well there?" Antonucci stated. "I was working harder than I ever had in the past at center back, I was continuously getting up the field and having opportunities to score, and I'm really appreciating that (Montgomery) did that for me due to the fact that knowing that I know that position at college will really assist me.".
