DANVILLE, Ind.-- Johnson County Sheriff's Office apprehended a recently-resigned Danville firemen on June 20 for a domestic battery charge.
According to court documents, officers responded to a disruption around 4:09 p.m. at a Danville house. There, they found 39-year-old Joseph Gourley-- a worker of the Danville Fire Department from July 2023 to his resignation on Saturday-- being in the front lawn, relatively inebriated.
Officers from the JCSO reported that they talked to Gourley's soon-to-be-ex partner. The partner tried to keep the door closed, which prompted Gourley to kick the door a number of times, triggering it to break.
Even though the couple is not formally separated yet, Gourley has been living different from his spouse for several months, cops said. According to Gourley, his spouse had assaulted him several times when he tried to get in your house. He declares he "…… pressed his method into your home without putting his hands on her" and informed officers "…… he still has a right to be there considering that they are still married".
According to court docs, one of Gourley's next-door neighbors said to officers that he had actually pertained to the house 2 days in a row. Apparently, Gourley had swung his arms at his spouse, got among her legs and her arms as if he were trying to pick her up and threatened to toss her off the porch.
JCSO stated that Gourley's wife has an emergency protective order versus him, and was advised he might not be at her home.
Due to all of this information, an officer apprehended Gourley on a domestic battery charge. He was carried to Johnson County Jail without occurrence, authorities composed. JCSO is still examining this case, but Gourley's partner does not currently deal with any charges.
