On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, U.S. Representative Monica De La Cruz made headlines by revealing significant funding for two major projects aimed at enhancing the city of Edinburg and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). Joined by UTRGV President Guy Bailey and Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza, De La Cruz expressed her enthusiasm for the funding, which includes:

The $1.4 million allocated for the lift station is part of a broader commitment to advancing infrastructure in Edinburg, particularly concerning water management. This funding will help secure the future of our agricultural sector.”
Mayor Garza highlighted that this project will enhance sewer infrastructure in a rapidly growing area of Edinburg, ultimately paving the way for more development opportunities.
The $500,000 provided to UTRGV will support the manufacturing hub located at the W.E.R.C. Complex, which stands for Workforce, Economy, Research, and Community. This funding is expected to facilitate:
Ron Garza, UTRGV's associate vice president for Workforce and Economic Development, shared how this funding will contribute to local job creation and workforce development. He noted that the dry room would allow for specific types of research crucial for industry partners.
