The Grand Connection Crossing project in Bellevue has officially hit a major milestone, and the community is invited to be part of this transformative journey. From October 16 to October 31, an online open house will showcase the preferred design for a vital multi-use crossing over Interstate 405, aimed at enhancing connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.
This innovative crossing is a key component of the broader Grand Connection program, which aspires to create 1.5 miles of seamless public spaces linking Meydenbauer Bay Park to Downtown Bellevue and extending to the Eastrail. This initiative promises to:
The crossing will span from City Hall Plaza to the Eastrail, facilitating connections for over half a million residents in the Eastside area. The project team has diligently gathered community feedback through workshops and previous open houses, ensuring that the design reflects the needs and desires of the public.
Throughout the planning stages, the team analyzed over 2,000 potential crossing locations, ultimately narrowing it down to four alternatives. The chosen alignment runs south of the Sound Transit light rail guideway, strategically placed between the Bellevue Downtown and Wilburton light rail stations.
As the project advances into the 30% design phase, the Bellevue City Council will deliberate on essential design choices, balancing aesthetics, functionality, cost, and community impact. Initial funding for this phase amounts to $6.1 million, bolstered by a generous $2.5 million donation from Amazon.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the upcoming online open house to:
Your participation is crucial, as the insights gathered will shape future developments in this exciting initiative. Don't miss out on the chance to contribute to a project that promises to redefine connectivity in Bellevue!
