‘Fight the Bite’ event aims to prevent mosquito-borne diseases

Local authorities will host a "Fight the Bite" media occasion at 10 a.m. Thursday to highlight efforts to manage mosquitoes in the community.

Citing the damp weather, authorities are predicting an early and active mosquito season. Mosquito bites can result in severe diseases such as the West Nile and Zika viruses.

For years, Clark County and the Southern Nevada Health District have signed up with forces to manage mosquitoes in the Wetlands Park and throughout the county. They set traps to survey mosquito amount, types and contaminated mosquitoes.

The event at Wetlands Park will include a mosquito-trapping demonstration. Officials likewise will get in touch with community members to assist prevent mosquitoes and to take preventative measures to "fight the bite.".
