Fresno County sheriff's deputies shoot suspect in Yokuts Valley, examination underway

YOKUTS VALLEY, Calif. (BNN)-- An investigation is underway after Fresno County constable'& #x 27; s deputies shot a suspect in
Deputies reacted to a call relating to a disturbance around 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Ennis Road and Mistletoe Lane.
Authorities say a man made his way onto a home, concerning individuals in the area. One woman even armed herself with a shovel.
"" He had been acting in an irregular manor,"" Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni stated. "" People seemed like their safety remained in jeopardy. And they felt there was a capacity that he could damage himself, and even others."".
Sheriff John Zanoni says when the first deputy got here, he tried talking with the suspect however the guy put his hands in the pockets of his sweatshirt - and then charged towards him.
The deputy took some actions backward, trying to pull away before he felt forced to fire, shooting the man in the upper body and leg.
"" The suspect went down, the deputy transitioned to perform medical aid to the suspect and eventually applied a tourniquet upon the suspect to avoid bleeding from the leg,"" Zanoni stated. "" And then the suspect was life flighted out to Community Regional Medical Center."".
Zanoni states while the deputy was dealing with the suspect, the guy repeatedly stated he had a gun, but no weapon was discovered. The sheriff describes the entire encounter as an unusual situation.
"" The suspect had no connection to this home. No service being on this residential or commercial property,"" Zanoni stated. "" He'& #x 27; s a 21-year-old male. He'& #x 27; s from Northern California and he doesn'& #x 27; t have any connection to this location even."".
Zanoni states the suspect was noted as stable at the medical facility. The deputy involved in this occurrence was not hurt.
Now as private investigators continue to gather proof, neighbors say they have their guard up.
Colette Holm'& #x 27; s household has lived in this community for about 50 years. Now she states, she warns her young child to be careful ... even while at home.
"" When she'& #x 27; s house alone, she requires to ensure she locks the door,"" Holm said. "" And we do have a protective canine and she knows she can not go to the door to see who'& #x 27; s there without the dog at her side, so you understand, you do need to consider those safety measures."".
