Georgetown plant to assemble Toyota's first battery electrical lorry


GEORGETOWN, Ky. (BNN)-- On Wednesday, Toyota revealed its plant here in the Bluegrass will assemble the brand name's very first battery electrical car (BEV).

Toyota Kentucky said it will lead the company's car carbon decrease efforts with its first U.S.-- assembled BEV, a three-row SUV, according to a press release.

" Toyota Kentucky set the standard for Toyota lorry production in the U.S. and now we're leading the charge with BEVs," stated Susan Elkington, president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky. "Our unbelievable team of Kentuckians is excited to handle this new challenge while providing the same great quality and dependability that our consumers expect."

Gov. Andy Beshear was thrilled to share the news and thinks it is an opportunity for the state of Kentucky to lead the charge with Toyota's battery-powered vehicles.

" This is amazing news that furthers Kentucky as the center of the electrical lorry sector," stated Governor Andy Beshear. "Toyota has long been an important part of the vehicle market in the Commonwealth, and now the company is positioned to help lead us into the future. I want to thank the company's leaders for their dedication to our state's unbelievable labor force, and I can't wait to see what's next for Toyota and Kentucky."

Toyota stated it's investing $2.1 billion in its North Carolina battery manufacturing plant for new facilities to build BEV batteries beginning in 2025.

Toyota Georgetown will do the same by using those batteries to put together the automobile, also beginning in 2025.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. is the company's largest vehicle manufacturing plant in the world, employing around 9,500, and efficient in producing 550,000 cars and 600,000 engines each year.

If growth to BEV production will produce more tasks or effect the current production volume, it is uncertain at this time.
