A Pennsylvania State Police trooper was critically injured in an ambush-style shooting early Monday morning, prompting a massive manhunt for the suspect. The incident occurred near a rural highway outside of Pittsburgh, according to authorities.
The trooper was reportedly conducting a routine traffic stop when an unidentified assailant opened fire without warning. The officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to a nearby trauma center in critical condition. Investigators believe the attack was premeditated, citing the shooter's concealed position and immediate aggression.
Local residents have been urged to remain vigilant as the search expands. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro issued a statement condemning the attack and pledging full resources to apprehend the shooter.
"This cowardly act against a public servant will not go unpunished," said a spokesperson for Breaking Now News. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies across three states have been alerted to monitor highways for the suspect’s vehicle.
Authorities are reviewing nearby surveillance footage and expanding roadblocks. The trooper’s identity has not been released pending family notification.
