How cooling and tanks could conserve Jacob's Well

WIMBERLEY, Texas (KXAN) - - Last July, Jacob's Well in Wimberley was closed for swimmers as the absence of water made conditions risky. Now, one group equipped with an idea is trying to save enough water to save the water and the well supply.

Given that 1996, David Baker with the Watershed Association has been safeguarding what has actually grown to almost 500 acres around Jacob's Well.

" Our main mission is really protecting land so we can protect water… … When the well is low, that indicates aquifer levels are low. So it's like an indication of the health of our groundwater system," said Baker.

In 2015 alone, Jacob's Well missed out on 16 inches of rainfall that it would generally have. What that meant was the stream coming out of the well had no flow for 35 days, the longest duration ever tape-recorded.

The community is attempting to bring back the well and conserve the water.

At nearby Blue Hole Primary School, the watering system outdoors and toilets inside are provided by condensation from a/c unit and water.

" The part that you can't put a price tag on is that neighborhood stewardship to safeguarding the resources of your location," stated Allen Bruggman, Communications Director for Wimberley ISD.

With financing from The Watershed Association, Wimberley ISD acquired water tanks, specialized rain gutters, and water sanitizing devices.

They adjusted a believing called "One Water."

Baker discussed, "‘‘ One Water' is the principle that water at every part of the water cycle, no matter whether that's rainwater, gray water, black water, storm water, all has worth."

Through this procedure, Blue Hole Primary has actually been able to cut their water expense in half compared to likewise sized schools.

And now a brand name brand-new job is underway in downtown Wimberley.

The expansion of the Wimberley Village Library will use AC condensation and rain water to offer water to the toilets.

" We discussed it and we are aware of what occurred at Blue Hole [Main School] ... and we believed, why do not we do that too," said Aileen Edgington, Chairperson of the Wimberley Village Library.

She added, "I'm sure the majority of the specialists that we have actually hired had never heard such thing, and they had the ability to do it really easily."

Aside from wishing rain, more of these types of steps may in fact make Jacobs Well ... well.

Edgington said "things are growing in Wimberley and things are being built. Hopefully this can be the next example behind Blue Hole. You can do this. And it's it's worth doing."
