JOHNSTON, Iowa - - Families sought out pools, sprinklers and splashpads on Monday as the early summer sun beat down on main Iowa.
" We like those, the important things that come out of the ground, those fountains," said a kid at the Johnston splashpad, describing the water spraying out of the ground. Several households were out at the splashpad throughout the afternoon.
" It's simply nice," stated another kid at the splashpad when describing the cool water on a sunny day.
Those in Polk County can get out of the sun by going to a range of cooling shelters all throughout the county. Dart Buses are offering individuals trips totally free to cooling centers from now until the morning on Wednesday.
One of those cooling locations is the
Des Moines Central Library in downtown. One guy was sitting inside in the air conditioning, enjoying the resource that the county offers.
" I would say it kind of assists a lot because people have heatstroke, you know, and some individuals have diseases like diabetics, you understand, and they require to keep one's cool, you know, So I would say it helps a lot," said Curshawn Skinner from
Chicago. "When in doubt, find someway to go out the drought."
