Join the Democracy: Become a Poll Worker in San Diego County!

The San Diego County Registrar of Voters is on the lookout for dedicated individuals to step up as poll workers for the upcoming November election, with a special emphasis on bilingual candidates. This is your chance to play a vital role in the electoral process and assist voters in navigating their rights and responsibilities.

Why Be a Poll Worker?

Poll workers, also known as election inspectors, are the backbone of a fair election process. They ensure everything runs smoothly at the polls, making them crucial to democracy. Here’s why you should consider this rewarding opportunity:

  • Make a Difference: Help your community by ensuring that everyone can cast their vote easily and fairly.
  • Earn Some Cash: Enjoy a stipend of $145 for each day of service from October 26 to November 4, and $240 on Election Day.
  • Enhance Your Skills: Gain invaluable experience in public service and customer relations.

Who Are We Looking For?

San Diego County is particularly in need of bilingual workers who can communicate in any of the following languages:

  • Chinese
  • Vietnamese
  • Filipino
  • Laotian
  • Arabic
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Somali
  • Persian (Farsi and Dari)

If you’re fluent in one or more of these languages, your skills are highly sought after to support diverse voters in your community.

Responsibilities of Poll Workers

As a poll worker, your tasks will include:

  1. Providing excellent customer service to voters.
  2. Assisting voters with questions and procedures.
  3. Completing a mandatory two-day paid training session (with a stipend of $95 per day).
  4. Opening and closing the voting centers.
  5. Remaining politically neutral at all times.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.
  • Be registered to vote in California.
