Juneteenth Celebrations in Kansas City area


KANSAS CITY, Mo. - - On Wednesday, June 19th, the country will commemorate Juneteenth - - a federal vacation that honors when shackled African-Americans learned they were complimentary.

Here is a list of a few of the events going on in Kansas City to commemorate the holiday:


3rd Annual Juneteenth Celebration



The 3rd yearly Juneteenth Celebration will take place at the Independence Uptown Market on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m

. A stage for live musical efficiencies will be inside the Independence Uptown Market pavilion. Suppliers and neighborhood companies will set up underneath the open-air structure simply east of it. Food trucks will likewise be at the celebration.

Juneteenth Celebration



Head to the Olathe Public Library as they honor Juneteenth on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library and Downtown Library.

Kids can delight in arts, crafts and storytimes, and Juneteenth movies for all ages to take pleasure in. There will likewise be a Black Business pop-up at Indian Creek Library.

Journey of Jazz: A Juneteenth Celebration at UMKC



Creative City KC will celebrate Juneteenth with a Journey of Jazz show at UMKC White Recital Hall. This is a complimentary public occasion.

The occasion starts at 6 p.m. and goes till 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Juneteenth Freedom Celebration



This roof occasion at Corrigan Station will have Black male educators speaking, in addition to food, beverages, live music and fantastic views of Kansas City.

The Jubilee of Juneteenth: Celebrating a Legacy of Freedom



This is the 3rd yearly Juneteenth event hosted by the Johnson County Government on Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lenexa Civic Campus Commons. This is an excellent event for the history fans.

The event will have a speaker, live music, dance performances and more.

8th Annual Juneteenth Celebration at the Nelson



The 8th Annual Juneteenth Celebration at the Nelson Atkins Museum will be held on Thursday. There will be live music and dancing, storytelling efficiencies, movie screenings and academic experiences in the museum's galleries.

The occasion starts at 10 a.m. and goes up until 9 p.m. Admission is free however registration is required for you to participate in. Click on this link to sign up.
