Kansas City Current midfielder Debinha called finalist for NWSL MVP Award


KANSAS CITY, Mo. - - Although the KC Current ended up second to last in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) standings, among their stars has a chance to win the most desired individual award in any sport.

The NWSL revealed Tuesday that midfielder Débora Cristiane de Oliveira - - or Debinha for short - is a finalist for this years Most Valuable Player Award.

Fans have an opportunity to elect the 32-year-old Brazilian footballer that began in 17 of the 18 video games she wore for this season.

Debinha scored 9 objectives out of the 17 she placed on target and finished 2 helps for the Current.

Others competing for the award are fellow Brazilian Kerolin Nicoli of the North Carolina Courage, San Diego Wave protector Naomi Girma, Portland Thorns midfielder Sam Coffey and the 2022 MVP, Thorns aggressor, Sophia Smith.

Regardless of the Wave, Courage and Thorns being the leading three teams in the standings, Debinha is still thought about one of the favorites to win the award.

Nevertheless, Smith makes a strong case to go back-to-back after the American ended up the regular season.
