CONCORD, N.C. — The NASCAR playoffs took an exhilarating turn as Kyle Larson clinched a stunning victory at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, marking his second triumph at this challenging track. As the Round of 12 came to a close, the stakes couldn't have been higher, and Larson seized the moment, leading 62 of the race’s 109 laps.
Larson's dominance was evident as he maintained a commanding lead, leaving second-place finisher Christopher Bell in his dust. Reflecting on his performance, Larson stated, “I think this is the first time we’ve been [at the Roval] without crashing since we last won here.” His confidence was bolstered by a week spent in the simulator, allowing him to find his rhythm early on.
This disqualification would have marked a historic moment, as it would have been the first time a four-car team placed each of its vehicles into the Round of 8.
Tyler Reddick faced adversity after a mid-race spin that saw him drop well below 30th place. However, he demonstrated remarkable resilience, racing back to finish 11th and securing a spot just four points ahead of Logano before Bowman's penalty.
Reddick remarked on his challenges, stating, “My car was absolutely destroyed after the spin. We made it a lot better for stage three... You gotta stay calm and stay focused.”
Joining Larson in the next round are notable contenders:
Despite their efforts, other playoff contenders faced elimination. Chase Briscoe's day ended in a crash, while Daniel Suárez dealt with mechanical issues after a collision.
In an exciting twist, Alex Bowman won the second stage of the race, seemingly securing his playoff position before the disqualification changed everything. Meanwhile, Larson's final stage performance solidified his victory, finishing over one second ahead of Bell.
The top five drivers were rounded out by Byron, Austin Cindric, and Elliott, while Shane Van Gisbergen, who started on pole, finished seventh.
The NASCAR Cup Series will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 20, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where Larson will look to defend his title as the reigning champion of the event.
