ELYRIA, Ohio - - A local 12-year-old trainee heard shouting "he has a gun … … he has a weapon," which triggered a school lockdown on Tuesday, later said he was just "messing around."
Authorities dispatchers got a panic alarm at Eastern Heights Middle School, along Garford Avenue, simply before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, according to a news release from police Lt. Bill Lantz

A school worker overheard the student screaming and began the school's safety protocols, according to the release. Officers were informed a student might have had a firearm. One trainee was "rapidly protected."
Officers did not see a gun in the school.
The 12-year-old trainee who made the claims later informed police he didn't see a gun, however that he was "simply ‘‘ playing around'" with another student, according to the release.
He now deals with a fourth-degree felony count of inducing panic, accredited to the Lorain County Juvenile Court. He was transferred to the county detention home and his moms and dads were notified.

"The juvenile suspect was remorseful for triggering panic and alarm," Lantz composed.
The school lockdown was lifted right after and classes resumed. Officers remained at the school the rest of the day.
