Male rescued from Raccoon River on Saturday has passed away


DES MOINES, Iowa - - The man who was rescued from the Racoon River on Saturday afternoon has died, according to the Des Moines Police Department.

The call can be found in at 6:07 p.m. by somebody who claimed to have actually seen the man jump off the Jackson Street pedestrian bridge, stated Sgt. Paul Parizek. A specific Water Emergency Team (WET) comprised of firefighters from the The Des Moines Fire Department pulled the male and responded, who was unconscious, from the water near the SE 6th Street Bridge.

" It was shocking, in fact. I never expected," said onlooker Kenneth Washington. "I searched for and the next thing you understood there were ambulances all over there and boats going through. They were right on top of it."

Washington was fishing off the SE 6th Street Bridge when he saw the commotion. He said he witnessed as very first responders brought the guy to the riverbank and administered CPR. The guy was then carried to UnityPoint – – Methodist Medical Center in vital condition where he later died, according to a police update on Sunday.

The male's identity has not been released. DMPD stated the event is under examination and more details will be offered as it appears.
