Pittsford Mendon High School’s basketball phenom, Alex Barbulean, has taken the local sports scene by storm, earning the coveted Player of the Week title. His electrifying performances have left crowds in awe, cementing his status as one of the most exciting young talents in New York high school basketball.
Barbulean isn’t just another high school athlete—his game intelligence, versatility, and clutch performances set him apart. Here’s what’s turning heads:
Last week’s buzzer-beating three-pointer against rival Fairport showcased Barbulean’s ice-cold composure. With just 2.1 seconds left, he sank a contested shot from beyond the arc, securing Mendon’s spot atop the division.
“Alex has that ‘it’ factor—the kind of player who changes the momentum of a game single-handedly,” said Mendon’s head coach, Mark Wilson. College scouts have already taken notice, with several Division I programs reportedly in early talks.
As Mendon gears up for the playoffs, all eyes are on Barbulean to carry his team deep into the postseason. If his current trajectory holds, he could join the ranks of Section V’s all-time greats.
