INDIANAPOLIS (AP)-- U.S. Sen. Mike Braun's Senate project should pay a $159,000 civil penalty to the Federal Election Commission for breaking project financing guidelines during the 2018 election.
The FEC posted an agreement on the charge today. The
Indianapolis Star initially reported the penalty Friday.
The FEC at first charged the Braun campaign with illegally accepting incorrect loans, however after the campaign supplied documentation, the FEC figured out the offense resulted from clerical mistakes by a previous treasurer, Travis Kabrick.
Braun's present project treasurer, Thomas Datwyler, issued a statement stating the errors "were mainly due to the oversight of our previous treasurer, Travis Kabrick."
Braun spokesperson Josh Kelley stated Datwyler is exploring choices to pay the fine "in light of Mr. Kabrick's mistakes."
A contact number for Kabrick could not be found and he might not be grabbed comment.
Braun is currently running for guv.
