A 21-year-old who grew up in Richmond has penned an emotional letter following their deportation to Honduras, expressing grief over losing the only home they ever knew. The individual, whose identity remains confidential due to privacy concerns, shared their story with Breaking Now News (BNN) after being separated from family and friends.
The young adult arrived in the U.S. as a child and spent nearly two decades building a life in Virginia. In the letter, they describe Richmond as their "heart and soul," detailing struggles with adapting to Honduras—a country they barely remember. "I miss my friends, my school, even the bus routes I used to take," they wrote. "Here, I’m a stranger in what’s supposed to be my homeland."
Advocates argue that deportations of long-term residents with no criminal history disproportionately disrupt lives. Local organizations in Richmond have rallied support, calling for policy reforms to prevent similar cases. Meanwhile, the letter has sparked debates about immigration enforcement priorities.
