-- If you live in ‘‘ The 440' starting today (March 1) a new area code is coming to the region.
For years, the 440 area code has served, and will still serve, the northern portion of Ohio, consisting of Ashtabula, Eastlake, Elyria, Lorain, Mentor, North Olmsted, North Ridgeville, North Royalton, Parma, Parma Heights, Rocky River, Solon, Strongsville, Westlake and Willoughby.
But, due to a predicted "3rd quarter 2024 exhaust of the 440 location code" - - a brand-new one was required.
The approval of an area code overlay, or the addition of a brand-new location code, was made late in 2015 by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. The North American Numbering Plan Administrator then announced in January that the location code "436" had actually been selected.
According to Verizon, the brand-new 436 location code will begin being designated to users on March 1, 2024.

According to the Public Utilities Commission, existing telephone customers do not need to change their contact number and can keep their present area code.
But, clients in the 440 area code region may be assigned a number in the new 436 area code when a new service or line is requested on or after March 1, according to Verizon.
