New York State Attorney General Letitia James is doing something about it against a gun device maker that her office connected to the perpetrator of the
Buffalo mass shooting.
The announcement comes days before the anniversary of the dreadful incident where 10 Black people were killed and 3 others were hurt in a racially motivated attack at the Tops on Jefferson Avenue.
A claim has been submitted versus Mean Arms, which James' office states assisted in the prohibited possession of attack weapons in
New York, consisting of that which was utilized by the mass shooter in
Buffalo.
"
New York law bans the possession of assault weapons and high-capacity publications that hold more than 10 rounds of ammo," James' workplace states. "Mean Arms produces, offers, and disperses a magazine lock, referred to as the MA Lock, that is marketed as a device to lock a magazine onto a semiautomatic rifle. The lock can easily be eliminated so that detachable publications, consisting of high-capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammo, can be placed into a rifle."
According to the Attorney General's office, shooter Payton Gendron used an AR-15 rifle that had an MA Lock installed.
" According to his [diatribe], he had the ability to easily remove the MA Lock from the AR-15 within a few minutes in your home, transforming his gun into a weapon with 30 rounds of ammo that he utilized to murder 10 individuals and hurt others," James' workplace said.
In the lawsuit, the Attorney General implicates Mean Arms of deceptively and falsely marketing that setting up an MA Lock on an attack weapon makes the weapon legal. James looks for to stop Mean Arms, which is based in Georgia, from doing company in
New York. Her workplace is seeking restitution and damages, as well as restorative statements from the company.
