On May 22, 2023, a powerful EF-3 tornado ripped through Temple, Texas, leaving a trail of destruction. Homes were flattened, businesses were demolished, and lives were forever changed. Today, the community reflects on the resilience that defined its recovery.
The tornado struck with little warning, packing winds of up to 165 mph. In just minutes, entire neighborhoods were reduced to rubble. Families scrambled for safety, emergency crews rushed to the scene, and the city braced for the long road ahead.
Temple’s recovery was fueled by an outpouring of support:
Filmmaker Sarah Vance spent months capturing Temple’s comeback story. "This isn’t just about destruction—it’s about ordinary people doing extraordinary things," she says. The film debuts next month at the Temple Civic Theatre.
