Federal immigration officials have detained more than 330 individuals across Los Angeles since Friday in one of the largest enforcement operations this year. The White House confirmed the arrests, stating they targeted "priority removals" including convicted criminals and recent border-crossers.
Administration officials emphasized that the operation aligns with existing immigration laws. "This is about public safety and border security," a senior official stated. "We're prioritizing individuals who pose threats to our communities or have blatantly disregarded our immigration system."
While some community leaders praised the operation, immigrant advocacy groups condemned the sweeps. "These raids create terror in our neighborhoods," said Maria Gonzalez of the LA Immigrant Rights Coalition. "Many families are now living in fear."
