Phony gun confiscated at regional high school

SOLON, Ohio - - City cops on Tuesday collared a Solon High School student bring an airsoft weapon that looked comparable to an actual gun, according to a report.

Cops just after 9 a.m. got a report that a 17-year-old student was seen with "what seemed a gun" hid beneath clothes.

Solon cops Lt. Bill Vajdich sent out a Tuesday notification "to eliminate any rumors that might be circulating about this event."

" Airsoft handguns are not guns. They resemble BB guns," Vajdich composed.

Officers quickly identified it was not a genuine weapon which there was no active threat to students, according to a notice administrators sent out to moms and dads on Tuesday.

" The quick resolution to today's occurrence was an outcome of our trainee body utilizing the reporting tools offered to them and taking to heart our essential slogan of See Something, Say Something," administrators stated. "Informing administration right away suggested the circumstance was attended to by the school and Solon security forces within minutes. The security forces in conjunction with administration made a tactical choice to not put the school in lockdown to speed up apprehension of the trainee."

Students are motivated to report such circumstances to an administrator or a "relied on adult." The school's anonymous Safe School Helpline can also be reached online, by texting TIPS to 614-426-0240 or by calling 800-418-6423, extension 359.

An officer took custody of the student, who is now at the city police department, according to the release.

Officers mean to provide a first-degree misdemeanor charge of illegal conveyance or ownership of a things equivalent from a gun to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.

A total event report was not offered on Tuesday afternoon.
