Police investigate hit-and-run as homicide

Ethan Chavez (Metropolitan Police Department).
A man detained in a deadly hit-and-run is facing a murder charge, authorities said Friday.

Ethan Chavez, 20, was arrested in November after cops said he falsely reported his 2016 Ford Fusion stolen following a Nov. 23 hit-and-run crash that killed Armani Williams, 23, according to an arrest report released at the time by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Cops later interviewed Chavez, and he changed his story to state that his phone was taken with the cars and truck, according to the arrest report. When officers mentioned that he called police using his phone, cops said, Chavez admitted to lying in his previous declarations and admitted that his car wasn't stolen.

Chavez was charged with duty to stop at the scene of a crash leading to death and launched on $25,000, according to court records. City said Friday they think Chavez intentionally hit Williams, and he was jailed again Wednesday and scheduled on a murder charge.

Anybody with details on the crash might call Metro at 702-828-3521.
