Rahal, Legge to get unique session Thursday following Monday's crash


INDIANAPOLIS-- The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will host a special session for a set of motorists.

IndyCar said Thursday's practice will include Graham Rahal's No. 24 vehicle from Dreyer & & Reinbold with Cusick Motorsports and Katherine Legge's No. 44 cars and truck from Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

The 15-minute session will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Stefan Wilson won't race in Indy 500 after fracturing a vertebra in practice session crash; set for surgery on Wednesday


Both racing groups have extenuating circumstances-- and their scenarios are linked. Legge's session was interrupted on Monday after she was involved in a crash that sent Stefan Wilson to the health center.

As an outcome, Wilson needed surgery and will miss the race. His team required a driver and called Rahal, who was bumped from the field throughout certifying.

Rahal, who generally drives for Honda, received clearance from the producer and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, to drive for a various team. The Dreyer & & Reinbold cars and truck is a Chevrolet.

In a press conference Tuesday, Rahal confessed he 'd face a tight turnaround for learning a brand-new team and cars and truck. He thought his only on-track opportunity would be the final Indy 500 practice on Carb Day.

For Thursday's practice, each group will be enabled limitless install laps (out and in) within the time frame. They won't be permitted to remain on the track to cross the start-finish line and the Yard of Bricks, according to IndyCar.

The last Indy 500 practice is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. The race is set up for Sunday, May 28.
