Rains sluggish as Hilary moves north and leaves Southern California underwater

Hurricane Hilary put rain across Southern California throughout Sunday night, leaving millions of individuals at flood danger, thousands of houses without power and the nation's second-largest school district closed.

The first tropical storm to strike the region in 9 decades dropped as much as 7 inches of rainwater in some mountain areas and up to 4 inches in lower lying areas.

Early Monday, authorities reclassified the storm as a post-tropical cyclone. The center of the storm is anticipated to travel north through Nevada today. Authorities in Las Vegas cautioned of wind gusts of up to 75 miles per hour. Flash flood warnings were set to stay in effect there up until 6:30 a.m. PDT.
